The Door Wasn't Where I Expected
When I was young, I imagined my life would unfold one way.
I had plans—clear pictures of where I thought I was headed and who I thought I would become. But life has a way of placing unexpected barriers in the road. Some were created by circumstances beyond my control. Others arrived through fear, loss, unexpected violence, wrong turns, or simply not knowing which path to take next.
There were seasons when I wondered if the life I'd imagined had slipped away for good.
For a long time, those detours felt like failures.
Now I see them differently.
God has a remarkable way of using our “rough drafts” to help us tell the story we were meant to tell. The things I once wished away became the very things that taught me compassion, patience, resilience, and the importance of learning to be our genuine selves.
Creativity found me through my rough drafts.
I realized that the pieces I was drawn to weren't perfect because they had survived untouched. They were beautiful because they carried a history.
The older I get, the more I believe people are much the same.
Every crease, every scar, every unexpected turn has become part of the masterpiece God has been creating all along.
Scrap & Soul Studio grew from that realization.
This isn't just a place to look at artwork or read stories. It's a place to pause. To remember. To notice the beauty tucked inside ordinary things. To believe that nothing—no season, no sorrow, no mistake—is wasted in the hands of a Creator who has always been telling a bigger story.
If you've ever wondered whether your own life has had too many plot twists, I hope you'll find something here that reminds you of this:
Sometimes the story we never would have written for ourselves becomes the one that leads us to ourselves.
Welcome.
I'm grateful our paths crossed here.
